Teaching Assistants Recruitment

Applications are invited for the Teaching Assistant (TA) positions in the School of Intelligent Manufacturing Ecosystem at Xi¡¯an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). The TA positions are open for all qualified interested graduate students (Masters and PhD students) on the campus of XJTLU or other graduates in Suzhou.

TA duties include:

• Assist in lab sessions, such as experiment preparation, setup and monitoring
• Assist in field trip
• Collect students’ questions, and answer students’ quick questions in tutorial, lab sessions and after-class consultation
• Invigilation of formal examinations
• Other appropriate activities as determined by module leaders

Modules and requirements

• MFE103TC: Introduction to Structural Materials

Module leader: Yuyi Zhu
Background Requirement: Materials Science, Intelligent Manufacturing, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrate the testing procedures and working principles of lab facilities (Tensile tester, hardness tester, sample cutting, polishing machines, optical microscope and etc.).
2. Assist lab technicians to inspect students¡¯ performance during the labs.

Module leader: SZE-HONG TEH
Background Requirement: MS/PhD Student with relevant backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with lab sessions- Demonstration & guidance to 450+ students.
2. Assist in preparation of lab materials.
3. Assist in marking lab reports.

Background Requirement: MS/PhD Student with relevant backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1. Assist module leader and co teacher with tutorial classes – arrangement and support during sessions for 450+ students.
2. Assist in preparation of tutorial.
3. Assist in marking assignments.

• MFE302TC: Intelligent manufacturing Information system (Haier)

Module leader: Xiaolong Lu
Background Requirement: MS/PhD Student with relevant backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with Lab and Tutorial classes – arrangement and during the class.
2. Deliver hands-on technical assistance in computer laboratories, tutoring students on information systems projects and troubleshooting.
3. Assist in preparation of teaching/tutorial/lab materials.
4. Assist for coordinating with module leader for the preparation of the fieldtrip.

Responsibilities:
1. Assist with Tutorial classes – arrangement and during the class.
2. Assist with Matlab Lab sessions – Demonstration & guidance to student.
3. Assist in preparation of teaching/tutorial/lab materials.
4. Assist for 2 days coordinating with module leader for the FANUC Shanghai Factory Visit & Certification Test & to coordinate with the Final Year students.

Responsibilities:

2. Assist with enterprise tutors communication – ?help to collect information or questions from students that may arise during the class.
3. Assist with Teaching Lab sessions – leading and guiding.
4. Assist in preparation of teaching/tutorial/lab materials.

Module leader: Xiaolong Lu
Background Requirement: MS/PhD Student with relevant backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in preparation of regular progress seminars for students to share experiences and receive feedback.
2. Support students in developing their professional portfolios and assist academic staff in tracking and evaluating workplace performance throughout the internship period.
3. Considering the placement distribution, students will be assigned to different companies and roles, the assistance from TA would greatly enhance the academic staff and industry partners to facilitate internship orientation, portfolio development, and professional skills acquisition across diverse workplace environments.

• DTS408TC: Big Data Mining, Analysis, and Management

Module leader: Nieqing Cao
Background Requirement: PhD Student with relevant backgrounds
Responsibilities:
1. Provide in-class support during lectures, including attendance, technical assistance, and managing student engagement.
2. Facilitate seminar discussions by guiding student interactions, clarifying concepts, and giving feedback on presentations.
3. Lead practical sessions focused on data tools and coding exercises, and assist students with technical questions and debugging.
4. Support course operations by managing online content and coordinating with the teaching team.

The pay rate for Academic Year 2025-26

• XJTLU PhD students: CNY60/hour (before tax)
• XJTLU Master¡¯s students: CNY50/hour (before tax)
• PhD and Master¡¯s students from other universities: CNY50/hour (before tax)
